Description of Opportunities:

Based in the belief that every person is responsible for his or her actions, the Thresholds Program teaches a 7-step decision making process that emphasizes an individual’s ability to guide his or her life. The program intends to instill in incarcerated persons a respect for their ability to determine what happens to them, particularly after they are out of prison. Volunteer teachers work one-on-one with a student (inmate) for about two hours discussing and reinforcing the decision making step studied in a previous group session taught by the lead teachers. Meetings take place in a classroom at the Dallas State Correctional Institute. The program offers a great opportunity for volunteers to work with an underserved population in a positive way.

An intensive two-day training is required for this program. The Thresholds Program runs twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
