WRITING: COMPLAINT LETTER
Write a letter of complaint demonstrating that a product
you purchased recently was defective or that a service was not performed
satisfactorily. You can write to any audience--corporations, school officials,
politicians, and so forth--but remember to include all relevant information
in your letter:
| 1 | a detailed description of the product or service. |
| 2 | a statement on what is wrong |
| 3 | details of the problem |
| 4 | description of action taken so far or comment on inconvenience you have experienced. |
| 5 | your request (what do you want done?) |
| 6 | a request for prompt handling of your claim. |
Be sure to write a formal letter (use either full block
or semiblock format) complete with all important parts (date, inside address,
complimentary close, and so forth).
After I have seen your complaint letter, marked it and returned it to you, revise your letter and make a copy. Send the revised letter to the company or person to whom it is addressed, and we'll see what kind of reply you get.
