WRITING: VISUALS

Visuals are the non-textual parts of business writing: the charts, graphs, tables, maps, pictures, photographs, drawings and so forth. This assignment requires you to write a short memo and to illustrate your content with a table and a pie chart.

Ms. Erma Barchester, Dean of Residence Life, has asked you to distribute a questionnaire to students living in the four main residence halls: Holy Cross, Esseff, Flood, and Luksic.  The questionnaire asks whether students want changes in the visitation policy.  Here's what the results show:

(1) In Holy Cross Hall, 245 respondents want the policy to include extended visitation hours; 50 want them to stay the same; 20 do not care; 13 did not return the survey; 4 respondents actually want the visitation hours reduced.
(2) In Esseff, the numbers were 176, 34, 32, 24, 9.
(3) In Luksic, 55, 5, 3, 10, 0.
(4) In Flood, 88, 5, 5, 2, 0.

Send a memo to Ms. Barchester informing her of the results of your survey.  Use a table to summarize the information above.  Also include a chart to show what percentages of students responded to each choice on the survey.  Be sure to introduce and interpret each of your visuals, but keep the memo relatively short.  You do not have to persuade Ms. Barchester to change the policy.  You are simply reporting the results.
