Short Form for Source Evaluations


Source Citation (for more on citation formats, click here)
[for the Web:] Authorlastname, First name. "Title of Internet Page." Internet Site Title. Date created. URL: <http:/ /www/etc.html> (Date accessed).
[for a book]:  Authorlastname, First name. Book Title. City of Publication: Publisher, date.  

1. Publisher: Describe in detail why the site and this particular page or document exists, namely, the institution, organization or person responsible for this site.

 

2. Authorship: If different from the above, describe who the author is and how he came to produce this information. Especially describe how the author has any professional expertise or credentials.

 

3. Objectivity: Describe any indications of bias, favoritism or a limited perspective.

 

4. Accuracy: Describe in detail any errors or misleading information due to bias.

 

5. Content: Give examples of new information the source provides for your topic.  Be sure to specifically list the kinds of sources used (tertiary, secondary, primary), the breadth and depth of coverage (from narrow topics to general survey), kinds of illustrations and graphics, and how it links to other sites.

 

6. Value: Using specific examples, explain how this changes your interpretation or structure of your evidence so far.  And using specific evaluative words, assess how helpful it was for understanding your topic.
